CHERITON LTA MINI TENNIS ORANGE TOURNAMENT
October 2007:
This was our first Mini Tennis LTA Tournament held at Cheriton. It was open to players aged 9 & under from across Hampshire, playing Mini Tennis Orange. Players came from Alton TC, Bassett TC, and Winchester TC. We had 3 players competing from Cheriton TC – Oliver Cook, Joe Johnstone, and Daniel Smith. All played really well, and had great court manners as well as a clear eagerness to win points! Tournament winner was Cyrus Wong from Alton Tennis Club.

JUNIOR & MINI TENNIS COMPETITION SATURDAYS
Sept/Oct 2007:

The first of the Mini Tennis Red/Orange Saturday lunchtime competitions saw a close, 3-set tie-break mini red match between Joe Johnstone and Daniel Smith, with Joe winning 10-8 in the deciding tie-break. 8 players joined in the first Junior Saturday lunchtime competition, playing round-robin singles tie-breaks, with Jonny Hart and Matt Probert winning. These short lunchtime competitions run every other week for each age group - please come along on the day and join in (see details here)

ADULT AMERICAN TOURNAMENT
September 2007:

We had 14 entries in our Adult American Mixed Doubles Tournament on a sunny summery day on 30th September. All matches lasted 15 minutes, with players changing partners after each match, and a sociable time was had by all. Winner from the ladies was Annie Bishop, with Nicola Cecil runner-up. Winner from the men was Simon Scott, with Greg Bishop runner-up. Nicola single-handedly arranged the BBQ to follow the tennis, which was much appreciated by the hungry players and spectators.

ADULT MIXED DOUBLES TOURNAMENT
August 2007:

This was a last-minute, short tournament run instead of the club tournament weekend which we had cancelled due to most people being away for the bank holiday. As a result, the time available for the tournament was rather short and players had to adjust quickly to their opponents' games with tie-break matches. 12 doubles pairs entered, with the final between David and Phillippa Tyler and Chris Hart and Jane Bracey - with David and Phillippa the champions. Sadly no photos as camera broke!

SUMMER HOLIDAY JUNIOR/MINI TENNIS CAMPS
August 2007:

Our Summer Holiday camps in August were full in all age groups and a great success. Bash taught the Mini Tennis Red and Orange groups, and Bash was helped by Chris Sellers for the Junior groups. On the Friday of each week Bash & Sarah ran special Competition Fridays with Mini Tennis Red, then Orange, and then Junior Round-Robin Tennis Tournaments for any members or non-members who wished to take part. These worked well and we will be running similar Saturday Competition Lunchtimes for the various age groups throughout the Autumn term (details in clubhouse soon). Thanks and well played to everybody who took part in the summer camps and the competition days.

FAMILY DOUBLES TOURNAMENT
July 2007:

We had 26 entries in our Family Doubles Tournament on 15th July and despite the thunderstorms at the start, all managed to play their matches. The final of the main Adult/Junior tournament was between Amy & Mark Hickson and Paul & Myles Greenwood, with Paul & Myles the champions. The final of the Mini Tennis Red tournament was between Lydia Hickson & Olivia Probert and Joe & Denby Johnson, with Olivia and Lydia the champions.

JUNIORS TRIP TO WIMBLEDON
July 2007:

On Friday 6th July 8 tennis club members went to Wimbledon , I was one of them. We had ground passes and 2 Court No 1 tickets to share. I got the chance to watch part of the two men’s quarter final matches, including Andy Roddick. We managed to get some junior players’ autographs and Joe even managed to get Jamie Murray’s!!! Overall we had a great day at Wimbledon 2007! Becky Hart

We got up bright and early to take a train to Wimbledon . We managed to see Baghdatis and Djokovic play as well as Roddick and Gasquet which was a superb match. Henman Hill looked a lot smaller than it does on TV! The atmosphere in Court 1 was very tense and quiet. Olivia, Amy, Becky, Joe and Millie managed to get some autographs of some young tennis players. There was a sort of interactive part for kids which we went to, it had games consoles and a small court all inside a big tent thing. They even took a picture of all the gang, but I don't think Sarah liked her picture too much! Matt Probert

I had a very good time at Wimbledon I think the players were very good and I was really proud when I got Jamie Murray's autograph. My favourite player is Roger Federer. Thank you for taking me. Joe Johnstone
We all met at the train station where we each bought our tickets and boarded the train to wimbldon. Once we had got off the train we got on a bus which took us to the grounds. After a short queue we were allowed in, where they checked our bags, the man commented on my flowery hand-bag. We then went around the grounds and saw a few junior matches. Then me and Matt took it in turns to see a match on court 1 with Bagdatis in it. We had our lunch then went to the interactive section where we had a photo and I beat Matt on the Wii tennis game. Then we watched some of the Roddick match and got 2 autographs, but we don't know who they were. Then we had a photo and the others left, but my family stayed and we watched the end of the Roddick match with Bash because a lady gave us some more tickets, it was great. My friend Abbie said her dad and sister had seen me and my parents on TV, but she missed it. We got home really late and went straight to bed. I LOVED MY DAY AT WIMBLDON WITH OLIVIA, MATT, BECKY, JOE, AMY, SARAH, BASH, LIZZY, AND MY PARENTS AND SISTER. Thanks for takeing me! Millie Pearce

On the 6th of July, a few club members went to Wimbledon . We got up early to catch the train up and then we caught a bus the rest of the way. At first we only had one Court 1 ticket so most of us had a turn on our own. While some of the juniors watched the Baghdatis match on court 1 Bash took the rest of us to watch some of the juniors play, they were absolutely amazing! All the children went to the kid’s zone where we could play games and a little bit of tennis. Then we went and sat on Henman Hill to eat our lunch! A few of us then went to watch Roddick versus Gasquet. They were both really good. At the end of the day everyone was tired but we’d all had great fun and its all thanks to Sarah and Bash! Thank you! And also to Lizzie, Mark and Hilary. Olivia Probert
