In place of the cancelled Club Opening Event (see below), we will be running an American Tournament (play with a different partner each match) on Sunday 30th September, starting at 2pm and running to c.5pm. This will be run as a timed doubles tournament. You do not have to enter with a partner. Maximum 16 players (due to only 2 courts), so email Sarah asap to enter your name. Just pay on the day (£2 per player), but you must enter before the day simply by emailing your name to Sarah - slloyd@ashgatepublishing.com .
BBQ & drinks from c.5pm (pay & eat) for all the family.
CLUB NIGHTS & MORNINGS HAVE RE-STARTED
The following club sessions have now restarted after the holidays and will run every week come drizzle or shine. Do come along and give these sessions a go - open to all and very sociable.
Drinks available on Friday club nights and non-members are also now welcome (£3) on the first Friday of each month - so if you know of anybody who would like to play/socialise but isn't a member then Friday 7-9pm on 1st Fridays are the sessions to suggest. We have cancelled the Thursday Play Tennis for Free session aimed at beginners and non-members, and the drills session, due to lack of support. If there are other sessions you would like to see introduced please contact one of your committee members.

NEW - BEGINNER'S CLUB NIGHT
A number of members have requested more opportunities for club sessions for beginner level players. Starting this Wednesday (19th Sept) there will be a weekly Beginner's Club Night - 6-7pm. There will be a coach present to help people mix in, but no coaching - just play friendly doubles against other members at your level. A number of players have already said they are keen to come along, so do come and join them.Open to members (free) and non-members (£3)
NON-MEMBERS' 'CLUB NIGHT' - 1st Fridays of the Month
On the first Friday of every month, Mixed Adult Club Nights (7-9pm) will be open to non-members as well as members - with the aim of welcoming even more local residents onto the tennis courts or socialising at the club. So please encourage all your friends who are not members to come along and join in if they wish. Non-members can also attend any Friday Club Night if they are interested in joining the club and wish to try it out.
We have successfully entered a men's team and a ladies' team in the East Hampshire Leauges. We have 8 men's and 8 ladies matches to play against other local clubs before March, with most matches being 7pm on Wednesday and Saturday nights and a few matches Sunday afternoons. Please let Sally Cradduck or Chris Sellers know if you would like to play in a match or two. We are in the bottom division - at the moment!
BOX LEAGUES - ROUND 2
The next round of the box leagues is starting on 1st October - now is your chance to enter, or re-enter, the box leagues and play friendly matches at a time of your choice against other club members. See separate email for further details. It would be good to run a doubles league this round too - you can enter even if you do not have a partner and one will be found for you. Please email the club secretary asap if you would like to enter the leagues (singles or doubles), or if you would like to pull out. Closing date for entries is 30th September. A Junior Ladder league is starting up too.
BOX LEAGUES ROUND 1 RESULTS
Congratulations to the winner and highest scorer of the men's box league round 1 - Chris Sellers - with David Tyler a close runner-up. Congratulations to the winner of the ladies' box league - Jane Johnstone, and to Charlotte Evans-Smith who achieved the most points across the league.
The popular Table Tennis in the Barn event is back. Come along to Middle Farm barn, Cheriton, for an evening of table tennis and socialising, plus fish & chips supper. Saturday 13th October 7.30-11pm. You can buy your tickets now - £7 per head to include fish & chips - from Catherine Prest or at Cheriton Post Office. More details HERE.
Martin & Sandy, from Cheriton Post Office, are organising regular friendly evenings of table tennis at the club on Tuesday evenings (7-8pm). Just call into Cheriton Post Office/Shop during the day and check details with Martin or Sandy.

ADULT MIXED DOUBLES BANK HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
- REPORT
Sadly our club championships tournaments all had to be cancelled due to lack of entries (we will avoid Bank Holiday weekend next year!). Those who did enter came along to a short mixed doubles tournament late on Bank Holiday Monday instead. We had 12 pairs but due to the brief time available the matches were sadly very short - though mostly sweet. The final was between David & Phillippa Tyler and Chris Hart and Jane Bracey - with David and Phillippa the champions. (Sadly no photos as camera broke)
NETBALL at CHERITON
It is great to see the netball sessions beginning on Thursdays 2-3pm for adults, and Cheriton Primary School are also receiving netball coaching at the club after school on Thursdays. Both sessions are run by coach Gwen Silvesters and organised by Helen Livingstone (if you would like to join the adult netball contact Helen at helen_livingstone@btinternet.com or telephone: 793346). Non-members very welcome.
GROUP TENNIS COACHING - AUTUMN TERM
The list of players in the various coaching groups is now posted up in the clubhouse. Apologies for the late details but forms were sent in very late this time which meant organising the sessions to accommodate everybody was very difficult and court bookings sheets also had to be delayed until final coaching groups were fixed. Please do apply early for the group coaching sessions next time if you can.
On the 1st Tuesday of every month, from 6.30-7.30pm (the hour before Men's Club Night) our head groundsman Denby Johnstone will be organising the mowing, strimming and generally tidying up of the club's grounds. Please come along if you can and help.
CANCELLED EVENT - 30TH SEPTEMBER
The committee has decided to cancel the re-scheduled, formal club opening event planned for 30th September (having been cancelled early in the summer due to the marquee falling down). Although it would have been a great day of top class sport and competitions, the moment seems to have passed to formally open the club and the committe all felt we would be unlikely to attract good crowds for such an event now. The present plan is to hold a 1st Birthday celebration, along similar lines, next summer. If any members have any ideas it would be great to hear them.
