The Adult Tournament will run as a knock-out tournament where you play an opponent at a pre-set time with nobody watching! - so enter and have a go whatever your level of play/confidence. Junior & Mini Tennis tournaments will be run as round-robin events.

Watch the finals on Mon 27th August c.4pm & join in the Hog Roast & Drinks refreshments we are sharing with Cheriton Cricket Club.
Club Box League prizes will also be presented at final prize-giving on Monday 27th.
COMPETITION FRIDAYS - JUNIORS & MINI T. PLAYERS
3rd August and 10th August.
On both Fridays we will be running
Mini Tennis Red Round Robin tournament for 8 years and under from 9.30-10.30am; MT Orange tournament for 8 and 9 year olds from 10.30-11.30am; and Junior tournament for 10-15 year olds 11.30-1pm. £2 entry fee per player on the day. These tournaments are open to those on the summer camps and all other members and non-members, so tell all your friends and come along.
The competitions will start promptly at the times stated, so don't be late.
Remember to enter the Cheriton Club Championships too.
FAMILY DOUBLES TOURNAMENT - REPORT -
We had 26 entries in our Family Doubles Tournament on 15th July and despite the thunderstorms at the start, all managed to play their matches. The final of the main Adult/Junior tournament was between Amy & Mark Hickson and Paul & Myles Greenwood, with Paul & Myles the champions. The final of the Mini Tennis Red tournament was between Lydia Hickson & Olivia Probert and Joe & Denby Johnson, with
Olivia and Lydia the champions.
A reminder that the Summer Holiday Timetable has begun for club sessions. Mixed Adult Club Night, and Junior Club Night, will continue on Friday nights throughout the Summer. Ladies Mornings on Fridays, and Veterans Mornings on Wednesdays (over 40), will continue except during the weeks of 30th July & 6th Aug due to the children's holiday camps. All other club sessions will stop until the Autumn timetable begins week of 10th Sept.
Details and booking forms will be included with next newsletter. Autumn courses will begin week of 10th September. Many courses will remain as per Summer term, but a few changes include: Bash's Thursday sessions moving to Tuesday, an extra Adult group coaching session on Friday morning with Beginner/Imp group 11.30-12.30 and Improver/Adv group 9-10am. CHERITON CLUB LEAGUE TEAMS FOR THE AUTUMN
We have entered a Mens and a Ladies Team in the LTA East Hants Winter League - running October-March. Sally Cradduck has kindly agreed to be ladies club captain and Chris Sellers men's club captain. Please let Sally or Chris know if you are interested in playing in any matches for the club against local clubs.
CLUB SHOP - NEW STOCK
The club shop now has many new items in stock - see Shop on website and on noticeboard in clubhouse. Don't forget to buy yourself some decent tennis balls as it makes all the difference (and initial them) - Slazenger or Wilson now on sale at £5 per tin. We now have tubes of Mini Tennis Red, Orange and Green balls for sale too - if you use mini tennis balls in your tennis lessons/camps it is very good if you can play with the same coloured balls at all other times too and you will probably have a lot more fun as well as progress more quickly with your tennis. New Cheriton Tennis Club T-Shirts for MT Red, Orange & Green players are in stock (Cheriton Tennis Club written on back).
MINI TENNIS LTA AGE GROUPS & COMPETITIONS
Important information for parents
The LTA have issued new age-based competitions framework for Mini Tennis to ensure the right competition is provided consistently to children at the right time. Categories are: 
Mini Tennis Red for players aged 8 & under;
Orange for 8 & 9 year olds;
Green for 10 year olds;
Full Tennis for 11 years & over.
Such age guidelines were already in place but inevitably some children/parents/coaches have been keen to progress more quickly through the mini tennis stages - often resulting in poorer technical, physical and tactical development, and lower enjoyment in playing the game. In France and Belgium the strict age-based structure for 10&U competition has been in place for a number of years with great success and it is widely recognised that to have players competing at the right age, with the right ball and on the right sized court has a huge benefit on technical, tactical, mental and physical development of their game. New Mini Tennis LTA leaflets will be in the clubhouse soon. 
Our courses, as well as competitions, at Cheriton will continue to match these LTA Mini Tennis age group categories, but now even more closely. We will be trying to encourage children (and their parents) to play with the appropriate Red, Orange or Green balls and court size both within their coaching groups/competitions and when playing independently at the club or elsewhere. We have tubes of MT Red, Orange and Green balls available to purchase now from our club shop (see shop) so please try these if 10&U, if you can.

NETBALL SESSIONS - BOOK NOW FOR 13th SEPTEMBER
Get fit this Autumn term at the Thursday afternoon (2-3pm) netball sessions at Cheriton. You do not have to attend every session, but you do need to book your place now. Hampshire Netball have generously arranged to subsidise coach Gwen Silvesters' fees, so the cost to players will be just £3 per session and it should be highly sociable, energetic and fun. We are very pleased to welcome additional members onto our Cheriton Tennis Club Committee now that the club is up and running. The club committee now consists of: Charlotte Evans-Smith, Denby Johnstone, Katherine Probert, Margaret Berryman, Alison Pearce, Simon Scott, Helen Livingstone, Charlotte Smailes, Karen Housden, Jo Anderson, Catherine Prest, Andrew Hardwick, Nicola Cecil, Bash Kara, Sarah Lloyd, plus the two Club Captains if they are willing to be part of the committee. You can of course direct any suggestions or concerns to anybody on the committee (or via the suggestions box in clubhouse) and hopefully we can follow-up when the committee meets every other month.
