About Cheriton Tennis Club

Cheriton Club across the fields

Cheriton Tennis Club was founded in 1967. Since 1967 tennis has been played on two grass courts at the club, but these have long been unplayable and the club has struggled to survive in recent years. With the help of our generous funding partners and donations, we have now completed our fundraising and construction of the new macadam courts started early November 2006. Pictures showing progress can be viewed under News.

The new Cheriton Tennis Club opened in March 2007. The New Facilities, particularly the high quality macadam courts and floodlights, have enabled the new Cheriton Tennis Club to offer active playing opportunities all-year-round. With 2 LTA licensed club coaches, the club will link actively with local schools and other clubs and organisations, bringing social and competitive tennis to as many as possible across the community. The new club is an LTA Affiliated Club, complying with necessary child protection and health and safety policies, and linking with initiatives at the Hampshire County LTA and sports initiatives through Winchester City Council's Sports Development team and the Schools Sports Partnership. The new facilities also enable the development of the entirely new Cheriton Table Tennis Club, and Cheriton Netball Club.

Cheriton Tennis Club aims to serve the whole community. It is a not-for-profit members' club open to all, and also offers coaching, pay and play, and try tennis for free opportunities for non-members. Located on Cheriton Recreation Ground, close to the centre of Cheriton village and the village primary school, opposite the Flower Pots Inn and set in idyllic countryside, the club presents a perfect setting for a high quality, sociable, village tennis club.
